Commit­tees

The Recto­rate manages the univer­sity as a colle­gial body. The members of the univer­sity manage­ment are the Rector, the Vice-Rectors and the Chan­cellor. The Rector repres­ents the Univer­sity extern­ally, has autho­rity to issue guide­lines and is also the Chairman of the Senate.

The Univer­sity Council accom­pa­nies the univer­sity, assumes respon­si­bi­lity in stra­tegic terms and proposes measures that serve to raise the univer­si­ty’s profile and increase its perfor­mance and compe­ti­ti­ve­ness. The core tasks of the Univer­sity Council include in parti­cular decis­ions on struc­tural and deve­lo­p­ment plan­ning, super­vi­sion of the manage­ment of the Recto­rate and the elec­tion of full-time members of the Recto­rate toge­ther with the Senate. Further­more, the Univer­sity Council is involved in the adop­tion of reso­lu­tions on budget and economic manage­ment and in the case of changes to the basic regulations.

The Senate shall decide on matters of teaching, study and rese­arch, provided that these are not legally assi­gned to another body or insti­tu­tion of the univer­sity. It is also the central statu­tory body for the university.

The Bache­lor’s and Master’s study commis­sions have been estab­lished for the further deve­lo­p­ment, imple­men­ta­tion and orga­ni­sa­tion of the study programmes as well as the teaching and exami­na­tion opera­tions of the Hoch­schule für Gestal­tung Schwä­bisch Gmünd. The tasks of the study commis­sions include, in parti­cular, to draw up recom­men­da­tions for the further deve­lo­p­ment of subjects and forms of teaching and study and to parti­ci­pate in the evalua­tion of teaching in accordance with § 5 LHG, taking into account student event criti­cism (§ 26 Para. 3 LHG).

The Staff Council is involved in the depart­ment’s decis­ions on personnel, social and orga­niza­tional matters. The type and extent of parti­ci­pa­tion rights in Baden-Wuert­tem­berg are governed by the State Personnel Repre­sen­ta­tion Act (LPVG). The Staff Council repres­ents the inte­rests of employees and civil servants in equal measure. It is made up of elected members of the univer­sity, whose term of office is five years.
